Listening For God

I did it.  I started a community online.  Why? Because God told me to.  Honestly, it’s been something I feel very passionate about and have been meaning to do for a while.  I feel like it took me until my mid 30’s to realize the importance of actually listening to God instead of always doing the talking and attempting to navigate life on my own terms.  I feel like, after some practice, I’ve learned to really hear His voice and see His direction all around me.  Now I’m running a group and writing a book to share the things He’s taught me.

Yet life gets busy.  I say I’m going to do “listening” every day.  But then I only get 5 minutes before my kids wake up or before I need to start my workout, so I pray, read my devotional, and go about the chaos of my day.  Wait.  When I do that, who is directing the activities and direction of my life? Me!  And I don’t know about you, but I’m not equipped for that.  We think we are.  I thought I was for many, many years.  We aren’t.  But God is.  This morning during my quiet time, I heard this:

“You need to LISTEN every day, all the time.  Not just when you want answers or are feeling lost… but EVERYDAY.  When you don’t, you are attempting to figure out life on your own.  Let Me show you the way.”

It’s one thing to pray nightly and go to church once a week.  It’s another to listen to God and ask for direction every single day.  To ask Him to speak to us every single day.  In fact, it’s life changing.  Because then we can actually start learning the purpose He has, the path He’s leading us on, the trust and security we get even when life seems to go awry.

So I opened up a group, because I want everyone to experience that.  I want everyone to feel that sense of relief that He’s got you… and He’s speaking to you and waiting for you to hear His whispers.
